Save the Leeds Trolleybus
By JohnnyChatterton
38 Degrees members in Leeds have been organising a local campaign to save the Leeds Trolleybus. On October 15th they’re planning to come to London to hand in the petition. Below is a blog from Stephen Belfield, a 38 Degrees member who is organising the London hand in.
Hello,
If you’ve come this far, chances are that you’re interested in coming to London to deliver the trolleybus petition. And I want to say first of all: a massive thank you!
Over the course of this campaign, I’ve been amazed and energised by the quality of the comments people have left when signing the petition; they have been detailed, passionate and persuasive. Take a look at all of them.
We want to make sure that ministers take our petition seriously and that we get good press coverage.
To do this we need a small group of people to deliver the petition in the spirit of the comments 100s of people have left: passionate and persuasive.
Come along and deliver our petition
If you’d like to get involved please email me your name and a tel number to stephen.b@38degrees.org.uk and I’ll keep you up-to-speed and arrange the finer details closer to 15th.
Date – Friday 15th
Time – 2pm
Where – DfT, Great Minister House
We hope to bring along a Leeds MP, Cllr Ryk Downes or Cllr Greaves, a representative from Leeds City Council and you!
Here is the plan:
We take the 10:40 East Coast service from Leeds and get to Kings Cross at 13:10, we take a tube on Victoria line to Pimlico and then a 15min walk to DfT at Great Minister House – getting there a little early.
We are working hard at the moment to arrange to meet a representative from the DfT, either a minister or a civil servant to hand the petition too. If not, we can always hand it in at reception. We can then take pictures and film this moment.
Thank you again for what you have done so far.
Stephen
