Come to a meeting with John Leech MP
By Megan Bentall
Want to help stop the gagging law? 38 Degrees have teamed up with Manchester Friends of the Earth to organise a public meeting in the constituency of Manchester Withington, on 26th October. Your MP, John Leech, has confirmed that he’s attending. So we need to pack the meeting with lots of his voters. Can you come?
Here are the details:
When: Saturday 26th October
Where: Chorlton Central Church, Barlow Moor Road, Manchester, M21 8BF
What time: 7pm – 9pm
Earlier this month lots of 38 Degrees members emailed John Leech asking him to agree to attend a public meeting. The staff team had been struggling to get a confirmation from his office. It turns out John Leech was away at the time which was why he hadn’t confirmed. It’s great that John Leech is willing to come to this meeting. Now let’s make sure it’s a massive event!
Sadly John Leech wasn’t at the most recent vote on the gagging law as he was in hospital. However in response to concerns from 38 Degrees members he has said that, if the bill was not improved by the government he would “not vote in favour”. This meeting will be a really good chance for him to hear from his constituents and organisations about the many problems with this law that still exist.
If John Leech sees a huge number of people in his constituency turning up and asking him to do everything he can to scrap the gagging law, it could massively impact his next vote on the law. If loads of people show up and pack the room it’s bound to affect what John Leech does as the law continues its way through parliament.

Hope to see you there!
