Gagging Law: Come to a meeting in Sheffield Hallam

By Megan Bentall

Want to help stop the gagging law? There’s a public meeting happening in Sheffield on Friday 22nd November. Can you come? It’ll be a great chance to get together with other 38 Degrees members in Sheffield Hallam to discuss the gagging law and show our opposition to it.

Although lots of 38 Degrees members have been in touch with your MP, Nick Clegg, to ask him to come along, he’s said he’s not able to attend. But, let’s go ahead anyway, we’ve already got some fantastic speakers confirmed and it should be a great event.

Here are the details:
Friday 22nd November
7:00pm
Wesley Hall, Crookes, Sheffield S10 1UD

Nick Clegg has so far distanced himself from this law – he’s admitted to a conflict of interests as his wife is a lobbyist. [1] But it’s widely being described as a Lib Dem law, and as party leader it’s important that he’s feeling the heat.

The law is already being heavily criticised by the Lords who could fix it, or even scrap it completely. But it will come back to the commons. A large public meeting happening in his constituency will make sure Nick Clegg is aware of the concerns about this bill.

If he realises how many people are planning to attend, it might be enough to change his mind about coming along. Or maybe he’s scared of facing his voters. But either way, together we can make it a success.

Please RSVP in the comments below, and invite your friends too, everyone is welcome to come along.

Hope to see you there!
