Stopping the Pension Age Rise
By Alexander Lusted
After heading up a storm of a campaign on Campaigns by You, yesterday 38 Degrees member Anne descended on the Department of Work and Pensions to present her petition. She’s demanding that Iain Duncan Smith reverse the State Pension Law: and she was armed with 55,128 of your signatures!
She was met outside Downing Street by 38 Degrees members from Cumbria, Cornwall, Yorkshire and beyond –
Here’s the petition text they handed in:
‘Dear Secretary of State for Work and Pensions,
In your Coalition document “The Coalition: Our Programme for Government”: the Coalition Government stated:-
“We will phase out the default retirement age and hold a review to set the date at which the state pension age starts to rise to 66, although it will not be sooner than 2016 for men and 2020 for women. We will end the rules requiring compulsory annuitisation at 75”.
However, the Coalition Government have broken this promise by accelerating the rise in the State Pension Age. Therefore, please ensure that Mr. Cameron & Mr.Clegg honour their word and reverse the State Pension Law.’
With only a few more weeks of Government, the pressure’s now on for Iain Duncan Smith and the DWP to stick to their promise on State Pensions.
