EU Referendum: let’s get the facts
By bex
Our country has a huge decision to make: whether to stay in or leave the EU. But right now, the people dominating the debate all have an agenda – from politicians looking to score points off each other, to newspapers trying to tell us which way to vote.
If we want to cast an informed vote, we need answers – and we know that political parties or media barons like Rupert Murdoch aren’t going to give them to us. So let’s find the facts ourselves.
To make this a reality, 38 Degrees is working with Full Fact, the fact-checking charity that’s independent of us and everyone else. They can fact-check the EU Referendum – debunking myths and shedding light on half-truths. If enough of us chip in to fund their research, we can make sure that as many people as possible vote on the issues, not the spin.
We can start today: please can you chip in to fund fact-checking investigations on the the EU referendum?
If enough 38 Degrees members chip in, we can support investigations into how our decision on the EU will affect the issues we care about most – like our NHS or the dodgy TTIP trade deal. Then we can break down the facts into simple, visual reports and videos that we can all share with our friends and family.
Full Fact’s experts and researchers are raring to go, ready to inspect the claims from both sides of the debate – but they need money to make it happen.
38 Degrees members believe in democracy – that the more of us who get involved, the better. And nearly a quarter of a million of us voted on our people-powered plan for the EU referendum. Together we voted to stay neutral, and make sure that everyone in the UK has enough information to make an informed choice.
The stakes are too high and the facts too important to be left to politicians alone. So let’s fund the facts ourselves: please can you chip in?
Once we have the information we need, we’ll work together to make sure that unbiased facts about this referendum are plastered everywhere: from newspaper adverts to billboards to beer mats. But the first step is to make sure the fact-finders can do their job. Please chip in now.
