Meet Srabani!

This email is a bit different: My name’s Srabani and I’m the new Chair of the 38 Degrees Board. [1]

That means I’m responsible for things like:

• holding the rest of the board and the Executive Director to the highest standards
• making sure 38 Degrees is fulfilling its mission of making the UK a fairer, more democratic place to live
• making sure we stay independent of political parties and funded by our members, so that we can confidently campaign on issues we care about
• making sure your voice is heard loud and clear

And since 38 Degrees is entirely led by its ‘members’ – which is people like you, who receive 38 Degrees emails and take action – ultimately, I’m accountable to you!

I’ve just started this voluntary role, but I know 38 Degrees has a lot to do in the next six months. Our NHS is in crisis, the environment is being threatened by things like plastic pollution and the final deal on Brexit will be taking shape. To make sure all of our voices are heard on these really important issues, we have to be firing on all cylinders. That’s where you come in.

You’ve been a part of 38 Degrees for much longer than I have, so could you please take 5 minutes to fill out this short survey on what I should make sure the staff team prioritise in the next 6 months? I’ll be looking at these answers this week so I can give fresh recommendations based on your responses.

I’ve worked for not-for-profit organisations for more than 30 years, but I’ve never been part of as big a movement as 38 Degrees. I’m really excited to join you.

[1] The board of 38 Degrees exists to make sure that the organisation is financially stable and accountable to you, the members who choose our campaigns and donate to keep 38 Degrees going. The board meets a few times a year for updates on 38 Degrees’ finances, staffing, and membership.
