Kicking off 2025: Our Downing Street dentistry update
By 38 Degrees team
Last Tuesday, 38 Degrees went to Downing Street to hand in a petition – in partnership with the Mirror, British Dental Association and Women’s Institute – signed by over a quarter of a million of us calling on the Government to save NHS dentistry.
We were joined by our supporter Tony at the door of No 10, whose NHS dentist literally saved his life by spotting early signs of mouth cancer.
This petition hand-in was all over the news – all thanks to the hundreds of thousands of 38 Degrees supporters who got involved in the campaign and made sure politicians had no choice but to take note.
But the fight for our healthcare is far from over – which is why over 40,000 of us have shared our views as part of the Government’s once-in-a-generation consultation on the future of the NHS. Just before Christmas the 38 Degrees team sent those views directly to the consultation team, making sure this community’s voices are at the heart of the plans.
And whilst we’ve still got a long way to go, public pressure is working. Just last week, Keir Starmer announced major changes to tackle the NHS waiting list. 38 Degrees supporters helped make that happen.
Less than a month into 2025 and because of the hundreds of thousands of us joining together to fight for the change we want to see, we’re starting the year on a strong footing. Here’s to more campaigning, and winning, for the rest of the year as we take on the big fights and make sure the Government delivers for all of us.
