Our impact in August

By 38 Degrees team

The news can feel bleak – take a second to breathe in and feel proud about the good things our community is doing to keep pushing for change.

What a few weeks it has been. Every time we share one of these updates, we’re reminded just how powerful this community is. People continue to take small actions on phones and laptops all across the country, which add up to big things: our voices in the papers, real-life stories on the evening news, big policy changes, and campaign wins.

Here’s a quick look at what we’ve done together this month:

Crashing Trump’s visit to his golf course

When Donald Trump showed up to visit his golf course in Scotland, we knew we couldn’t stay quiet. More than 56,000 of us had already signed a petition urging The Open Championship not to be held at his Turnberry golf course. Then, with the world’s media watching, thousands chipped in to run bold ads in the Scottish press – making sure the message was loud and clear: Don’t give The Open to Trump Turnberry. The National front page and our ad went viral online and when it was printed the publisher ran out of physical copies of the newspaper!

Our campaign made even more headlines, with our CEO speaking to The Herald. That’s not all – we were live on LBC repping 38 Degrees supporters who don’t want the UK to roll out the red carpet for Trump’s second state visit.

Standing up for Gaza

At a time of immense tragedy, this community came together again. More than 135,000 of us have signed a petition calling for an end to UK support for the Israeli military in Gaza, and 71,000 of us called on Keir Starmer to use his influence on Trump to push for urgent food to be let into Gaza to stop the famine. It’s a small but important way to help stop the horrors being inflicted on the Palestinian people – and to show that we won’t look away.

A new generation of voters

The announcement about votes at 16 could reshape the next general election. Our CEO spoke to The Independent about how parties will need to step up and engage with a new generation of voters. It’s a reminder that our work isn’t just about winning individual campaigns – it’s about shaping the national conversation.

38 Degrees supporters making waves in their communities

Not all campaigns make national news, but they matter just as much. In Brighton and Hove, locals are rallying to save the much-loved Hove Floral Clock. Hundreds have signed local Laura’s petition, and Brighton and Hove News covered the campaign. It’s a beautiful example of people power at a community level.

This isn’t change happening in some boardroom far away. This is people like you, rolling up your sleeves and making it real.

Thank you for being part of it.
