“BAN FRACKING FOR GOOD”: Miliband shares campaign win news exclusively with 38 Degrees supporters

By 38 Degrees team

Ed Miliband has promised to introduce a permanent ban on fracking, in an exclusive message to 38 Degrees supporters ahead of his Labour Party conference speech today.

The news is a great result for our environment and local communities. And because hundreds of thousands of us in the 38 Degrees community have a long history of fighting fracking – including the recent petition by supporter Geoff calling for it to be banned for good – he wanted to share the news directly with us first.

In the video, he thanks 38 Degrees supporters for their commitment: “You called for it. I’m going to do it. Thank you for your campaigning.”

Not long ago, it felt like fracking might make a comeback, with Reform UK following in Trump’s footsteps and shouting “drill, baby, drill.” But thousands of us stood up, demanded a permanent ban, and made our voices impossible to ignore.

In fact, for years this movement has stood shoulder to shoulder with local communities and other groups against fracking. Miliband’s response today is a victory for all of us, and proves what people power can achieve.

Today we’ve won a huge battle. But the fight for a better future is far from over – and it’ll take all of us stepping up to make it happen. So if you can, will you chip in today to help us keep pushing for a greener, cleaner Britain? Every kind contribution makes us that much stronger, and helps us hold politicians and corporations to account.

If we can stop fracking, just imagine what else we can achieve together.
