Campaigns by You:
Partner’s Program

On our Campaigns by You platform we open up the 38 Degrees digital toolbox to allow people to run their own campaigns. We have a dedicated team available for advice, and you’ll have access to a wide range of tools to help you run – and win – campaigns.

Our basic tools are more than enough for most people to run the campaigns on the issues that are close to their hearts. However for some larger organisations, who are campaigning on the same issues as 38 Degrees, it makes sense for us to partner up and join forces.

Why partner with 38 Degrees?

Why partner with 38 Degrees?

Partnering with 38 Degrees means that we can pool resources and each play to our strengths. 38 Degrees is a multi-issue campaign organisation, we’ve build a huge movement of people across the UK who want to make the country a fairer, more respectful and more sustainable place. We’re experts in digital campaigning, in translating complicated issues down to simple concepts and providing supporters with low-bar actions that they can take today to help shift the country in the right direction.

We often partner really well with organisations that are issue experts or policy experts, but not used to digital campaigning and organisations that don’t have a big reach. Or perhaps you’re a media organisation that has a broad reach but is less used to rapid response campaigning and working out theories of change to shift the dial on issues. Either way we’d love to work with you.

How it works

How it works

Most partnerships start with a conversation, we check that we’re aligned on everything and that we’re clear about what each of us are signing up for. 38 Degrees is guided by our values of making the country fairer, more respectful and more sustainable when selecting new campaigns and partners.

We’ll have a chat

You’ll have an initial conversation with one of our team about your campaign. We’ll talk through the campaign aim, target, timelines, and plan to make impact.

We’ll sign agreements

We’ll agree how the partnership will work, including working styles and sign data sharing agreements so that when people opt-in to your mailing list we can transfer the data to you.

We’ll set up a partnership page

This is a hub page where your organisation can host all of your petitions on our website. It’ll include your logo and description of your organisation, and each campaign will include an opt-in button to join your external mailing list.

You’ll need to set up an administrator for this page who will be able to download signatures and send updates to supporters etc.

You’ll create a petition

Once your partnership page is set up, you’ll be able to create petitions within it. Each of these will include an opt-in check box for your external mailing list and you can download details of anyone that checks this box.

So you’ll create a petition for the campaign we’re partnering on, then share it with your supporters and put out there into the world to start gaining traction.

We’ll test the petition

As always, 38 Degrees supporters from across the UK help us decide which campaigns we invest our staff time in. So with every new campaign we launch, we’ll always test partnership campaigns with our supporters to see if it’s something they are interested in campaigning on.

If it’s not something our supporters are engaging in, it means we probably won’t invest in pushing the campaign any further with our supporters. That doesn’t mean the campaign ends, it’s still live and all of the tools are still available to you to campaign with, and we can reconsider further tests if the issue comes back into the headlines.

If  our supporters are excited about the campaign, together we’ll come up with a plan – we’ll help grow the campaign further, advise you on contacting petition signers, come up with strategies together and throw everything we’ve got at the campaign in order to win. There isn’t a one size fits all approach.

What to expect?

What to expect?

Before launching a partnership together we’ll talk through what it will look like and the roles that both organisations will play. We expect this to look something like:

  • Someone from the 38 Degrees staff team will be a point of contact to offer support and advice on campaign tactics, strategy and communications.
  • We can test your campaign with our members and we’ll make sure you’re name checked. Usually we will test a national campaign by emailing around 30,000 people to see whether they engage with the campaign. The most successful campaigns can be sent to millions of people across the UK.
  • During peak moments of the campaign you’ll be in regular contact with the 38 Degrees office team, working together to deliver your strategy.
  • As partners we’ll share information between us that could be useful for the campaign.
  • Where appropriate we can open up our campaign toolbox to help win the campaign for example, letting your supporters email their MP or decision maker, or fundraising for a specific tactic.
  • We’ll both agree to name check each other and use each other’s logos whenever we do stunts or press work.
  • We can activate an ‘opt-in’ checkbox on your petition page that allows people to join your organisation’s mailing list, however 38 Degrees reserves to right to turn this off when emailing our own supporters.
  • As a partner of 38 Degrees you have a responsibility to regularly update members who take part in your campaign, making sure they hear about any big developments as soon as they happen.
  • Depending on the size of your petition you can email your supporters between one and three times a week through our platform.
  • You won’t be able to promote other campaigns, external links to other petitions or campaign websites, or a political party via your petition. Your petition will have to follow our terms and conditions.

Case Studies

Partnership Case Studies

Women’s Aid: Funding for refuges

38 Degrees worked with Women’s aid to ensure that funding for refuges was kept safe. The government has listened to the hundreds of thousands of people in calling to stop planned changes to how refuges are funded. We told Ministers that these disastrous planned funding reforms would have put women and children’s lives at risk. See the campaign here

Doctors of the World: Stop making our NHS doctors into border guards.

After thousands of us signed the petition, emailed, tweeted and called Jeremy Hunt and chipped in for hard hitting ad vans, the government announced it was scrapping the dangerous data sharing deal between the NHS and the Home Office! See the campaign here.

The Mirror: Honour Alan Bates

The Mirror and 38 Degrees joined forces to push for an honour for Post Office hero Alan Bates – who led a 20-year campaign to expose the Horizon computer system scandal. After over 100k signed he received a knighthood in the King’s Birthday Honours. See the campaign here

Testimonals

Testimonials

38 Degrees has worked with all kinds of partners to make meaningful change.

The success of our #StopSharing campaign in May, in which the Home Office confirmed they would no longer access and use NHS patients’ personal information to track down undocumented migrants, hugely benefited from our partnership with 38 Degrees. We are a very small team at Doctors of the World UK and having 38 Degrees there ready to advise us, share our petition (which reached over 70,000 signatures) and help raise funds so that we could stage a stunt outside the Home Office, was invaluable.
– Doctors of the World

It was a pleasure working with the 38 Degrees team to drive our petition calling for a deposit return system on plastic bottles. Together we created one of the biggest plastic pollution petitions of 2018, bringing together diverse citizens wanting to stop the tide of plastic washing over our beaches, countryside and city streets. We worked together on actions from the beach front to the front door of 10 Downing Street, creating an exciting, compelling and ultimately vital campaign to tackle one of the main plastic pollution offenders: plastic bottles.
– Surfers Against Sewage

I’m so grateful to all the 38 Degrees members who got behind City to Sea’s campaign and put pressure on our retailers to Switch the Stick. Your signatures, shares and social media action made every bit of difference… the seas, rivers and coastlines will be a lot cleaner in the coming years thanks to you!
– Nat, City to Sea
