Rethink the Badger Cull petition handed in
By becky
Since 38 Degrees members voted in July to launch a campaign to stop the government’s plans to kill thousands of England’s badgers, tens of thousands of 38 Degrees members have signed the massive petition. Together we’ve sent a strong message to to our politicians to halt the cull.
Yesterday, 38 Degrees volunteers gathered outside the Department of Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to hand in the huge people-powered petition.
Even before the hand-in, DEFRA’s chief vet was in no doubt as to the extent of the support for our petition. He answered 38 Degrees members’ questions about the scientific evidence on which the government has based its plans.
38 Degrees members showed that we are against the use of culling as a knee-jerk political gesture lacking scientific backing, and asked the government to listen to the scientists – to invest in the long-term, by focusing on finding measures that will be genuinely effective against bovine TB.
It’s still important that we grow the petition. Please tell your friends and family to sign here.
