School playing fields petition hand-in to Michael Gove
By 38 Degrees team
On Wednesday, 38 Degrees members from across Surrey Heath delivered the national petition asking Michael Gove to protect our school playing fields, placing the names of over 133,000 members right where it can’t be missed – in the entrance hall to his constituency office.
You can watch the video below:
Michael Gove couldn’t make space in his diary to meet his constituents to receive the petition, but his secretary assured 38 Degrees members that she would ensure the boxes were there to welcome him when he returned from Parliament.
The hand-in was local but it was backed up by tens of thousands of 38 Degrees members across the country. Together we made it clear that the spaces where our children play, compete and learn should be protected – and that once these playing fields are sold off and built upon, they will be gone forever.
Just like when we came together to protect England’s woods, we’re trying to stop precious open spaces from being lost forever. If enough of us join in, we can win this time as well.

Members have also been sending in information about local playing fields which are under threat, building a database of areas to watch. Have you heard of a local playing field which is under threat? Add your stories here so we can continue to protect local green spaces.
