The 38 Degrees Team

Our team working to change Britain for the better

Introduction from our CEO, Matthew McGregor

Just like our supporters, the 38 Degrees team gathers together people from all walks of life.

Cinema manager. Author. Bartender. MP. Plumber. Camerawoman. Our backgrounds are as unique as we are.

We live on Skye and on the South Coast, in Cardiff and in London, throughout villages, towns, and cities, from Yorkshire to Dorset. Even a farm in rural Herefordshire. We speak Welsh, Thai, Xhosa, Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese.

We enjoy spending time with our families, our pets, and our friends. We’re into long walks, long runs, paddleboarding, jacket potatoes, sewing, chess, gardening, computer games, you name it!

And we each have particular causes that matter most to us – democracy, the cost of living, the environment, women’s rights, men’s health, and childcare. Our NHS, our schools, our libraries. Because we all have a real stake in making the UK the very best it can be.

We might not agree on the best football team (it’s Norwich city, though) or the worthiest winner of Traitors (Rachel), but there’s one thing we definitely all have in common: a drive to make people-powered change. Together, we work towards creating a fairer, greener, kinder country for everyone.

I am proud to lead this team – but ultimately, I and all of the team, work for our community of supporters who make everything 38 Degrees does possible.

Below you can find out a bit more about our different teams, and the range of skills that we bring to the table.

Impactful Campaigns

We work to make change happen through powerful campaigns on and offline. We use social media, the press, and our Campaigns By You platform to amplify community voices and inspire action.

We create opportunities for the British public to have their say on the issues that shape our lives and society and we do our best to make those in power listen.

Veronica Hawking leads this department as Campaign Director.

Since joining 38 Degrees in 2019, it has been an incredible seven years of taking on greed, division, and injustice. We make sure the people in power know they can’t ignore us – and there’s nothing quite like celebrating a win together after a long, hard-fought campaign.

Supporter Empowerment

Our goal is to make sure that as many people as possible across our country can join our movement and have a great experience taking actions with the 38 Degrees community.

We work on innovative, secure tools that empower supporters. We think hard about data to shape our campaigns and ensure they represent the values and priorities of supporters. And we make sure 38 Degrees is always listening and responding to community feedback.

Robin Priestley leads this department as Director of Supporter Engagement and Insights.

Honestly, sometimes I get a little emotional reading the notes we receive from supporters. Campaigning can be a rollercoaster, but hearing from those who are personally impacted is such a powerful reminder of what it’s all about. It’s an absolute privilege to have the chance to work with individuals so dedicated to making change happen – together we’re unstoppable.

Kate, Supporter Experience Manager

Organisational Enablers

We equip 38 Degrees with the strategic, operational, and financial resilience to challenge power and shape a fairer society.

This department builds the foundational strength of 38 Degrees by providing critical procedures, policies, financial stability, operational support, and strategic direction. We create a culturally strong and adaptive environment, positioning 38 Degrees to thrive whatever the future brings.

Rachael Gibbons, Amana Dawuda and Leyton Jones lead these functions.

As someone who is passionate about equity and interested in politics and fair governance, I really value the opportunity to harness my finance skills with a mission that speaks to me: working together to make a fairer country. The 38 Degrees community pulls off some amazing things together, and I’m so glad to be a part of it.

Uche, Finance Business Partner

Our Board

The Board of 38 Degrees exists to make sure that the organisation is financially stable and accountable to its members. The board meets a few times a year for updates on 38 Degrees’ finances, staffing, and membership. The members of the board have been chosen for their wide range of experience in campaigns, the voluntary sector, politics, law, and business.
