Gagging law: Upcoming public meetings

By Rebecca Falcon

Want to help stop the gagging law? 38 Degrees members are holding big public meetings with their MPs across the country this winter – to discuss their concerns about this dangerous law.

So far, there are three public meetings confirmed, with Mike Thornton MP in Eastleigh, John Howell MP in Henley, and Neil Carmichael MP in Stroud. We’ll be getting lots more meetings across the country confirmed in the next week – so keep an eye on the 38 Degrees Facebook page for details:

The gagging law is already being heavily criticised by the Lords, who could fix it, or even scrap it completely. But MPs still have a lot of power to influence the government. They can pressure the government to make changes to the law while it’s in the House of Lords. And if it comes back to the Commons for debate, they can even vote against it.

We know that our large, noisy public meetings last month had a big role to play in pushing the government onto the back foot on the gagging law – and achieving a pause in the bill’s progress in the House of Lords.

If MPs see a huge number of people in their constituency turning up and asking them to do everything they can to scrap the gagging law, it could massively impact their next vote on the law. Together we can make these meetings a success.

Here are the details of the three events confirmed so far:
