Child First: Safe Child Contact Saves Lives

Right now children are being put in danger by Judges. When settling custody battles many Family Court Judges don’t consider parents with a history of domestic abuse as a threat to children, so they give them access to their kids. This has lead to twenty children being murdered in the last decade by parents known to be violent.
These tragic deaths were avoidable. So the charity Women’s Aid have started a 38 Degrees petition to make sure that no more children are put in danger because of a decision made by a judge.
Almost 40,000 people have already signed the petition, and it’s being delivered to Justine Greening, the MP in charge of child safety, next Tuesday. If even more of us pile in behind the campaign right now, she’ll be in no doubt that the public want the rules changed before any more children are killed.

“No parent should have to hold their children and comfort them as they die, or be told that their child has been harmed in an act of revenge or rage”
These are the words of Claire Throssell, whose two children, Jack and Paul were killed by their father. Tragically, the judge had ruled it would be safe for him to see them unsupervised despite a history of domestic abuse.
Claire will be with Women’s Aid handing in the petition to help protect children from dangerous parents next week.
