Sign the open letter to get a good trade deal with the US
By Nona Hurkmans
Chlorine-washed chicken and hormone-fed beef could be heading to our fridges. As you read this Liam Fox, the minister in charge of trade, is negotiating a deal with Donald Trump and lower food safety standards could be on the table.
Liam Fox is desperate to get a deal so he’s ruling nothing out. He thinks he can get away with it because the public isn’t paying attention. A huge show of public pressure telling him there are red lines he can’t cross could stop him from ditching the standards that protect everything from our NHS, to the environment and our food safety.
If thousands of us sign an open letter to Liam Fox today, we can make sure he knows we don’t want him to cross our red lines. Please can you sign the open letter if you think we need trade deals that benefit everyone, not just American food companies:
Since the UK voted to Brexit, thousands of 38 Degrees members have come together to decide what new trade deals should look like. From protecting our NHS to making sure our democracy isn’t watered down, we all agree that we want deals that benefit everyone, not just big business.
Big businesses have already been lobbying Liam Fox. They’ve had drinks receptions and private meetings with him. But we’ve got people power on our side. Liam Fox will be wary of the huge public outcry 38 Degrees members led against the dodgy EU-US TTIP trade deal.
Together, we can make sure Liam Fox knows where we stand and if enough of us get involved, he’ll have to listen. That’s why your voice matters.
