Lewisham Hospital protest on Hunt’s doorstep

By Fredi

38 Degrees members and Lewisham residents gathered outside the Department of Health today to protest once again against the planned closure of crucial maternity and A&E wards at Lewisham Hospital.

Mums and babies born in the hospital gathered behind a 100ft-long petition signed by hundreds at the march last Saturday. Lewisham choir played a starring role, singing through the rain and warming up the crowd. Watch a video from the morning here

Today’s protest followed the lively demonstration on Saturday, where an estimated 25,000 marched through Lewisham.

As well as the protests, over 17,000 38 Degrees members have written to Jeremy Hunt demanding that he scrap his plans to cut services at the Lewisham Hospital. The government is due to make its decision in the next few days, so now is the time to send your own email to Hunt if you haven’t done so already. Click here to write your own letter to Jeremy Hunt.

You can also join local residents on Friday morning (1st February) outside Lewisham hospital to receive the news. Visit the Save Lewisham Hospital campaign website for details.
