Our impact in April
By 38 Degrees team
Scrolling through the news can sometimes feel bleak, like we’re powerless against those at the top. But this blog proves that when we band together, that isn’t true. So sit back and take a moment to read all the wins and impact that our fearless community pulled off this April.
⛳ Keeping Trump out of the Open
When Donald Trump tried to bring the prestigious Open golf tournament to his Turnberry course in Scotland, our community immediately stepped up. Thousands of us signed a petition saying his divisive politics have no place at this beloved sporting event and paid for powerful ads in Scottish papers ahead of Trump’s visit to his course last year. And we just won! It’s officially been announced that the 2028 Open will be held at Royal Lytham instead. By raising our voices together, we sent a clear message that hate and division are not welcome in our sport.

🗞️ Our fight against chlorinated chicken hits the headlines
We absolutely refuse to let greedy corporations flood our supermarket shelves with chlorine-washed US chicken. Because of your relentless support, our team dug deep using Freedom of Information requests to uncover the truth about backroom trade talks: Government officials were briefed on the possibility of making chlorine-washed chicken legal here in the UK. Our shocking findings landed a massive, exclusive feature right in The Guardian! We also headed to 10 Downing Street to hand in our mega 159,032-signature petition demanding PM Keir Starmer and Trade Minister Chris Bryant keep chlorine-washed chicken off our shelves.

🛑 Taking our fight against Palantir to the press
When US tech giant Palantir tried to deepen its grip on our public services, we knew we had to act. We partnered with Zack Polanski to launch a massive petition demanding the Government cut ties with the controversial data firm. And our community’s outrage is making serious waves! The campaign just landed a major headline in The Guardian, further ramping up the pressure on the Government to scrap the company’s NHS deal.
📺 Our campaign featured on Good Morning Britain
When we partner with other incredible campaigners, our community has the power to take their message national. That is exactly what happened in April when our joint petition with Dump the Scales was featured live on Good Morning Britain! Together, we are fighting to make sure people struggling with eating disorders get the life-saving treatment they deserve.

📚 Local people power in Essex
A community member in Essex recently decided they had suffered enough of unfair reservation fees for library books, so they launched a local 38 Degrees petition to scrap the charges. This brilliant local campaign just picked up huge media coverage in the several local papers like this and this – and BBC News! It is beautiful proof that anyone, anywhere, can use our platform to stand up and make a real difference.
👨👩👧👦 Celebrating the end of the cruel two-child cap
After years of our community alongside 17 other organisations campaigned tirelessly against the cruel two-child benefit cap, the lifting of this policy finally came into force last month. To mark the moment that real families will actually start feeling the difference in their pockets, we took out a huge advert right in the middle of The Times! You helped push this heartless policy into the history books.
