BBC splashed across the papers

By 38 Degrees team

This week, 38 Degrees members came together to make headlines. Together, we’re exposing the truth about the British public’s support for the BBC – and the government’s plans to rip it apart.

Thousands of 38 Degrees members chipped in to fund a people-powered poll of public opinion. The results showed that the majority of voters cherish the BBC – yet more evidence that the government is out of step with public opinion. And this week our explosive poll was splashed across the pages of the Observer, a major national newspaper.

Here’s what the paper said:

“The findings will raise increasing doubts among many Tory MPs about the political wisdom of meddling with an organisation seen by many of the party’s voters as a cherished part of British life.”

You can read the full article here (it was printed in the Observer newspaper and was also published online on the Guardian website).

But it didn’t stop there. The New Statesman published an article by David Babbs, Executive Director of 38 Degrees, reporting the results of our poll – and explaining exactly why the BBC’s independence and funding are under threat.

You can read the article here.

Our people-powered research has made waves in the press – and these articles mean that thousands more British people will know our BBC is at risk.

38 Degrees members are standing up for the BBC, and it’s working. Together, we’re revealing the truth about the BBC and exposing the government’s real intentions for our public broadcaster. And there’s so much more we can do. If enough of us keep working together, we can stop the government ripping it apart.
