IPP Prisoners – Campaign update
By Louie Herbert
This update comes from petition starter Katherine Gleeson:
As you may be aware I had an invitation to meet the Chief of the Parole Board, Mr Nick Hardwick and Parole Board Cheif Executive Martin Jones, on 9th August 2016 to discuss the issues arising around IPP Prisoners. Fellow IPP campaigners Ms Ann Horton and Mr Mike Ford accompanied me. On the day, there was a 38 Degrees vigil outside, enabling the families of IPP sentenced prisoners to gather and show support.
At that meeting update we discussed various issues and observations and we deliberated areas of change in the Prison System, Parole and Probation.
The biggest single piece on news is very positive. All IPP Prisoners over tariff will be aimed at release for 2017! The aim is to eradicate this backlog by the end of next year (December 2017), so by then, there should be no one in prison purely because their hearing is delayed. You can read the full minutes of that meeting here: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/IPPMeetingMinuites
But there is still more to do in this vital campaign. The more people who sign the petition, the more chance we have to make the changes we all want to see. I’m writing this to ask if you can go one step further and share the petition with your friends and family. Pleased copy and paste this link on Facebook or forward it your friends email.
