Aaron and Rebecca present the petition to three Brighton Kemptown candidates: Davy Jones (Green Party), Nancy Platts (Labour Party) and Paul Chandler (Liberal Democrats).

The petition calls on Parliamentary candidates to protect our NHS by:

  • Stopping privatisation
  • Making sure it has enough funding to provide high quality healthcare to everyone
  • Protecting it from US health corporations by keeping the NHS out of TTIP

Kate Dyson, a 38 Degrees member from Kemptown said: “The urgent need for the NHS can effect us at any time during our lifetime, and we must applaud the excellent work that this service provides. It’s shortcomings are not with the highly professional and caring practitioners, but with the cost of the top heavy beaurocracy and the continual cuts implemented by successive governments. This Saturday I will be out spreading the news and collecting signatures for our petition. We must let prospective MPs know that we will fight to the end to prevent the running down or selling off of this valuable service.

At time of writing the petition for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven is at 2,198 and keeps on growing. Not signed it yet?! Sign it here.

What an enormous shame that Simon Kirby (Conservative, and the most recent MP), and Ian Buchanan (UK Independence Party) declined our invitation to receive our petition and commit to protect the NHS. We went out looking for them to hand over the petition…
