Our impact in February
By 38 Degrees team
Here are the latest updates about all the brilliant things the 38 Degrees community has achieved this month. We couldn’t do any of this without you. Every action, every donation, and every word of support makes these moments possible.
Win! The Government is banning foreign political donations 💰
When Elon Musk threatened to “buy” British politics with a rumoured £79m donation to Reform UK, over 162,000 of us fought back – and won! Thanks to our massive campaign, the Government’s clamping down on foreign political donations, by bringing in tough new rules to stop shady “front companies” and demanding donors are actually registered to vote here. Together, we took on the world’s richest man and proved that our democracy is absolutely not for sale!

Keeping chlorinated chicken off our plates 🍗
Trump wants to flood our shops with chlorine-washed US chicken, but we’re hitting back hard. Over 150,000 of us have demanded Keir Starmer say no, and 132,000 called on supermarkets to ban it from their shelves. Thousands of us even wrote directly to supermarket bosses. The pressure is paying off – most supermarkets have confirmed directly that they’ll never stock the stuff!
But with some supermarkets not giving firm commitments, we had to turn up the heat. Tesco, the biggest of the lot, only said they had “no plans” to sell it – but we want a promise that they never will. So we rocked up to their offices with a fake delivery van and a giant chicken to demand a proper guarantee! People power is working, and we won’t stop until our food standards are completely safe.

We paid a visit to Buckingham Palace… 📮
Donald Trump has invited King Charles to visit the USA for a celebration of 250 years of American Independence. Paul, a retired priest from Bournemouth and ex-resident of the USA, set up a petition asking the King to cancel the visit. Over 134,000 of us added our names, and last Thursday, Paul delivered those signatures, and thousands of personal messages from 38 Degrees supporters, straight to Buckingham Palace to get our message to the King.

King Charles: Clean up the illegal dump in Wigan! 🚯
When 25,000 tonnes of rat-infested rubbish was dumped next to her home and a local primary school, Nicha decided she had suffered enough. Because the land actually belongs to King Charles, she launched a 38 Degrees petition demanding the King take responsibility and urgently clean up the mess.
Her brave campaign quickly picked up steam and even made it onto both Channel 4 News and into Hello! magazine putting this local nightmare right in the national spotlight. Nicha is proof that anyone, anywhere, can stand up and demand real change in their community – no matter how powerful the landowner might be!

Protecting a beloved local garden 🌷
When 38 Degrees supporter John heard about plans to turn Salisbury’s historic Leaden Hall into a modern office block, he decided to fight back. He launched a petition asking the council to reject the plans and save its rare historic gardens. His campaign has just hit the local headlines right before a final decision next month – proving that when local people stand together, we can protect the places we love!
Huge thank you to everyone who has got involved this month. Here’s to another month of holding the rich and powerful to account, and fighting for a country we all want to live in!
