Bristol North West: NHS day of action
By 38 Degrees team
On Saturday a group of 38 Degrees members in Bristol North West consituency got together to take part in a nationwide day of action on the NHS. A big group of us met outside Henleaze library to collect signatures to the Save our NHS petition. The petition asks candidates to – if they’re elected – to fund the NHS, protect it from privatisation and from the dodgy trade deal, TTIP.
Here we all are before heading off to collect signatures. As well as petition signatures, we were also collecting messages in our GIANT Thank you card for the local hospital. It was amazing to read people’s stories about what they were thankful for. Judith was grateful to the NHS for looking after her Mum in her last few weeks. Dougal, who does all kinds of outdoor activities, was grateful for treatment in the 8 or 9 times he’d been to hospital – so far!
In only a couple of hours we collected an extra 400 signatures to add to others we’d collected online and on the streets! We had some brilliant conversations with passersby – many of whom could remember the days before the NHS and felt passionately about protecting it.
After all of our hardwork, we handed the big total over to the MP candidates in the Bristol North West constituency. Below is Darren Jones from the Labour Party, Charlotte Leslie MP, from the Conservative Party and Clare Campion-Smith from the Liberal Democrats. The big total was over 2000 by the time we were finished! Message sent loud and clear in Bristol North West – Save our NHS!
